Nellie Wong is the author of three books of poetry. Her work has
appeared in numerous anthologies and journals. Two of her poems are
engraved in public sites of the San Francisco Muni, one at Market and
Sanchez Streets and the other on the Embarcadero where the F Muni line
runs (across from Levi Strauss building). Her work and protest poems
are included in the documentary film, "Mitsuye & Nellie Asian
American Poets," and have been translated into Italian, Chinese, French
and Spanish.
She traveled in 1983 to China as a delegate with the First U.S. Women
Writers Tour and has keynoted at conferences such as National Women
Studies Association and Women Against Racism.
She is retired as a senior analyst in affirmative action but worked the
majority of her life as an office worker. She represents University
Professional & Technical Employees/CWA 9119 as a delegate to the
San Francisco Labor Council AFL-CIO. She is a leader in Radical Women
and the Freedom Socialist Party.
